JOB SUMMARY:  Provide effective control over the vessel’s marine operations with due regard for safety of personnel, maintenance of vessel equipment and protection of the environment.  Provide marine support for the effective day to day industrial operation of the vessel

PREREQUISITES/QUALIFICATIONS: 

Valid Canadian (Unlimited) Master Mariner License, or STCW equivalent
Valid Canadian Barge Supervisor License, or STCW equivalent
Valid Unlimited Nautical Instituted Dynamic Positioning Certificate
High School Diploma or Equivalent 
Work experience and demonstrated ability of oral and written communications may be substituted in lieu of formal education
2+ years previous experience in a role with 6th generation semi submersible drilling rig
Experience with Kongsberg K-Pos/SDP and K-Chief/SVC systems
Experience from POSMOOR ATA operations on semi-submersible
Knowledge of Anchor Mooring operations and equipment, AHV interface, winch operations and position/tension monitoring
Knowledge of all technical calculations required for the safe operation of the marine aspect of the vessel
STCW Ship Security Officer
Advanced computer skills
Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates
Valid GMDSS License
Lifeboatman Certificate
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensure strict compliance with local/international laws relating to the vessel’s operation, and current environmental/pollution regulations
Oversee the maintenance of deck, firefighting, life-saving, and lifting equipment, including vessel’s exterior
Ensure materials and equipment loaded on board are safely stowed, secured and labeled according to Regulatory requirements
Ensure that the vessel is seaworthy at all times and operated in accordance with guidelines in the Marine Operations Manual
Maintain safety and security of the vessel, watertight integrity, loading and storage of consumables, safe operation of supply vessels or helicopters or other operations within the 500m zone
Partake in the daily operations meeting as the Marine department head with the Master/OIM and other department heads
Ensure that the vessel is maintained within normal safe limits of intact and damage stability,  sheer stress and bending moments
Ensure the vessel’s navigational equipment is maintained fully functional, and that testing and calibration is carried out in accordance with Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) regulations
Plan and execute the various stages of vessel moves and port
Ensure marine/deck findings from regulatory agency inspections are closed out properly
Maintain the vessel’s deck logbook, and other vessel documents as directed
Ensure bridge watches are maintained in a professional and orderly manner with due regard for international law and the rules of good seamanship
Understudy of the Master/OIM and deputize when he/she is indisposed
Supervise the 2nd and 3rd Mate’s activities, perform the duties of a DPO when required
Assist the Master/OIM during rig moves and anchor handling operations between drilling locations and in ports
Operate and supervise mooring operations when required
In relation to the vessel’s trim and stability requirements, communicate with the Maintenance Supervisor regarding the disposition, loading, ordering as use of fuel, potable and drill water
Capable of performing DP incident investigation
Capable of planning, executing, and leading DP trials and drills including black out recovery
Incorporate the THINK process into all tasks, whether working alone or as part of a team
Participate in the START process
Ensure that subordinate personnel are properly trained to perform START observations and monitoring
Call a Time Out for Safety (TOFS) whenever an unplanned hazard or a change in the expected results is observed
Ensure compliance with environmental protection requirements as specified by Company policies, flag state and coastal regulations
Ensure that the Company HSE policies and other programs are communicated  to and understood by all personnel
Play an active part in the weekly meetings, FOCUS Improvement Program , and all other Company safety management systems
Ensure that new arrivals receive a full safety briefing and induction on the vessel
Ensure that a high standard of hygiene and housekeeping is maintained on board the vessel
Assist the Master/OIM in all emergency situations and emergency protection responses
Assist the Master/OIM in coordinating weekly emergency drills including monitoring and evaluation of the deck crew responses.  Conduct after action reviews
Assist in reviewing and updating the vessel’s safety case in consultation with vessel and shore-based management
Train new DP personnel and assess the skill level of new and existing DP personnel
Ensure proper and relevant communication with all personnel training matrix
Participate fully in the performance appraisal process ensuring marine personnel are evaluated in a  consistent and professional manner
Mentor, develop and train crew members to ensure that they are competent to work in their current and next job level
Maintain discipline on board and ensure compliance with Company and regulatory disciplinary procedures
Recommend promotion or disciplinary action up to and including discharge
