Reports to the Barge Supervisor


Supervises the Ballast Control Operator (BCO), Crane Operator, Roustabout and Painters


Offshore location


High school diploma or equivalent. Work experience and demonstrated ability of oral and written communications may be substituted in lieu of formal education.
Valid Unlimited 3rd Mates License o Barge Supervisor License
Knowledge of all technical calculations required for the safe operation of the marine aspect of the rig
Basic computer skills
Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates
Valid Ballast Control Operator License

Assist the Barge Supervisor in ensuring that all marine aspects of the rig’s operations are carried out in accordance to statutory and regulatory controls and guidelines.



Check variable deck load on a daily basis in order to calculate and maintain unit Stability – Authority I                                            
Coordinate all helicopters and supply boats traffic to the rig and assist in supervising transfers of materials to and from the rig – Authority I        
Monitor quantities of expendables such as fuel, potable water and drill water – Authority I                                                                        
Assist in ensuring that all marine and navigation equipment is properly maintained and ready for use at all times – Authority I        
Assist in monitoring the stability of the rig and ensure that all loads  are appropriately dispersed throughout the rig – Authority II            
Operate and assist in maintaining the bulk system as required – Authority II
Assist in ensuring that all lifting gear is color-coded, maintained and stowed correctly – Authority II
Supervise tests on firefighting equipment, obstacle lighting, and audible Signals – Authority II
Supervise Crane Operators, Roustabouts and Painters in work related to drilling operations, deck maintenance, loading and offloading workboats, etc. – Authority II
Assist in planning rig moves, anchor patterns, and associated mobilization preparations – Authority II
Maintain accurate daily marine logs.  Forward copies of these reports to the shore-base office – Authority II
Assist in monitoring weather/environmental conditions. Advise the Barge Supervisor/OIM on conditions likely to affect drilling operations and seaworthiness of the rig – Authority II
Assist in ensuring that all safety equipment, including lifeboats and firefighting equipment is maintained in a state of operational readiness at all times  – Authority II
Assist in ensuring that all Flag State and Classification Society requirements are complied with including manning scale for marine personnel  – Authority II
Participate in the effective management of the Rig Maintenance System (RMS) as directed by the Barge Supervisor.  Ensure that all records are maintained properly  –  Authority III
Deputize for the Barge Supervisor as required – Authority III
Maintain ballast and bulk transfer systems – Authority II?

Incorporate the THINK planning process into all tasks, whether working alone or as part of a team – Authority I     
Participate in the START process – Authority I
Ensure subordinate personnel are properly trained in the START process – Authority I
Call a Time Out for Safety (TOFS) whenever an unplanned hazard or a change in the expected results is observed – Authority I
Play an active part in the weekly meetings, FOCUS Improvement Process, and all other Company Safety Management Systems –  Authority I
Review, understand and become familiar with the rig’s safety case  – Authority I
Ensure that a high standard of hygiene and housekeeping is maintained onboard the rig – Authority I
Partake in weekly emergency drills along with monitoring and evaluating the deck crew responses – Authority II
Assist the Barge Supervisor during emergency situations and emergency protection responses as designated on the station bill –       Authority II
Assist in communicating all Company QHSE policies and other to all rig Personnel – Authority II

Meet the training requirements according to the applicable training Matrix  – Authority I
Mentor, develop and train crew members to ensure that they are competent to work at their next job level – Authority II
Participate fully in the annual performance appraisal process – Authority I
Ensure proper and relevant communication with all personnel – Authority I
Maintain discipline onboard and ensure compliance with Company and regulatory disciplinary procedures – Authority I
Conduct OJT training for marine personnel –  Authority II
