Job Summary
The Chief Mechanic ensures all mechanical systems and equipment on board the drilling are maintained to a high operational standard, and assists in the supervision and safe operation of the rig’s mechanical maintenance department.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years working on a Drilling vessel in a Maintenance Discipline
Minimum of 2 years as Department head in one of the following disciplines
Engineering
Electrical/Electronic
Mechanical
Subsea
Education and Training
High School Diploma and completion of all training and certification requirements according to the Training Matrix.
Minimum Requirements
Good interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively, excellent team working and organizational skills.
Physically capable of being transported to an offshore rig by boat or helicopter.
Must be capable of working in a confined Marine environment.
Must have excellent conflict resolution skills and be able to diplomatically handle confrontation.
Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the employer’s safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.
Be able to maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer’s sole discretion.
Be available and willing to travel to such locations and with such frequency as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
Physically capable of performing emergency procedures including evacuations, fire drills, and other Emergencies.
Responsible for own personal safety and the safety of co-workers.
PC proficiency required. Competency with Microsoft Office Software suite version 2007 or greater.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Comply with all Pride HSE policies as outlined in Prides QSMS document.
Responsible for Preventive and Corrective maintenance on all shipboard equipment to include but not limited to: Hull and Marine equipment, Power Generation/Distribution & Propulsion/Auxiliaries, Air Compressor systems, Engineering Auxiliary systems (I.E. Sewage, OWS, Pot water, etc.), Drilling equipment, Control System equipment (DP, IAS, & Drilling System controls), Safety equipment, Communication and entertainment equipment
Coordinate with the Rig Superintendent and Master to plan and schedule Maintenance, taking into account operational commitments.
Administrate Maximo and coordinate all PM and CM between departments. Generate weekly PM requirements, distribute to department heads, review and close out previous weeks completions.
Responsible for the MAF, RES and EFR processes and will coordinate follow up with the Maintenance manager onshore.
Responsible for administration of Lube oil sampling/quality program. Ensures monitoring, corrective actions and documentation of same for parameters outside of specifications.
Responsible for ensuring all load bearing equipment and pressure vessels, are maintained, inspected, tested, certified and recorded based on Statutory Regulations and Class requirements. Schedule surveys by third party vendors and maintain records of equipment certifications.
Ensure on-time submission of the following reports: MMR (Monthly Maintenance Report), Progress reports for all Equipment Audits
Implement Equipment Bulletins and Safety Alert recommendations. Bulletins and safety alerts to be entered in Maximo for tracking and follow-up to ensure completion of required actions onboard. Include lessons learned in daily and weekly safety meetings.
Review and update operating procedures, in conjunction with other department heads, to ensure that the vessel’s working operations are conducted in a way that prevents injury to personnel and/or damage to the vessel or equipment. Inform department personnel of any changes in these procedures.
Review Maintenance Department requisitions and expenditures. Ensure that unnecessary items are not purchased, and that inventory levels are adequate and not duplicated unintentionally.
Budget planning to include weekly prioritizing and annual budget input.
Administer five year plan with Justification Work Sheets.
Holds weekly safety meetings with all Maintenance Department Personnel
Ensure good housekeeping of all Maintenance work and storage areas.
Keep written hand-over notes to ensure efficient and accurate transfer of information.
