Experience

 

Preferably 2-3 years of experience as Roughneck
 

Skill / Attributes / Competencies

 

Basic level of verbal and written communication in English (can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance. Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information or familiar and routine matters)
The Roughneck is required to work on day and night shift
Must have demonstrated the ability to physically and mentally perform work in all areas and heights required
Must be willing to work inside designated confined space entry areas
Use of SCBA, use firefighting equipment and access multi-level areas of tender and DES.
Maintain BMI levels as per company and client requirement.
The incumbent is expected to be mobile to cover similar roles within the fleet
Meet the training requirements as per company’s training matrix
Ability to competently and safely perform duties defined in the job description
Preferably some experience in Oil & Gas drilling operations
 

 

Main Responsibilities

 

 

The Lead Roughneck is the designated “person in charge” of the drilling crew and the leader of the other Roughnecks who provides assistance to the Driller in operating the rig during drilling, completion and work-over operations. He also ensures other Roughnecks are maintaining safe working practices and conditions on the rig floor at all times and leads the Roughnecks by displaying a safe work attitude and performance during the execution of all work activity.

 

 

Minimum Job Functions

Includes, but is not limited to and not in order of priority:

Check equipment on the rig floor is maintained to safe standard and assist in pre-use checks, perform maintenance of drilling equipment as required by supervision.
Performing all relevant duties assigned by the Driller during drilling, completion & work-over operations, including but not limited to supervising and assisting Roughnecks with: picking up/ laying down drill pipe, making connections while drilling, tripping, running casing, running tubing, handling BOP & Riser, handling wellhead equipment and rig moves.
Supervising and assisting Roughnecks with performance of all preventative maintenance steps assigned to the drilling crew as they apply to the related equipment under the supervision of the Driller or Assistant Driller.
Keeping Driller informed on necessity of drilling repairs and drilling supplies as required.
Assist Derrickman and or during relief time assist in the maintenance of any mud pumps, shale shaker and mud cleaner screens or mud cleaner cones as required.
Assist Derrickman and or during relief time work at monkey board level, running or pulling tubulars in close communication with the Driller and the floor crews.
Assist in installation and movement of B.O.P. equipment.
Assist Pumpman and or during relief time carry out repairs to the fluid end of the mud pumps and valves in the LP mud system.
Before tripping to line-up the mud systems and trip tank, to pull out and also to shut down unnecessary equipment as directed by the driller.
Carry out casing stabbing duties from casing stabbing board during casing/ tubing running/ pulling operations where competent.
Monitor Roughnecks in the performance of their duties, acting as coach and mentor to less experienced individuals
Supervising and assisting Roughnecks with keeping the rig floor clear of tools after each trip, cleaning all tools on floor and returning then to the correct storage locations.
 

SAFETY RESPOSIBILITIES:

 

Understand safety critical barrier responsibilities as defined within the Rigs safety case (available from your supervisor)
Understand safety critical procedures, safety critical equipment and safety critical activities associated with safety critical barriers as defined within the Rigs safety case
Maintain effectiveness of safety critical barriers as defined in the Rigs safety case
Lead safety by example for all employees to follow
Promotes safety awareness and safe work practice among all the personnel on board
Implement and lead company and operator safety programs and initiatives
Leading participation in and compliance with the Permit to Work system
Conduct pre-tour and pre-job safety meetings in compliance with the company requirements (which includes use of the 4-Point check / Energy Wheel and TBRA tools), ensuring that crews have participated fully in discussions, have determined the safest method to complete the task and have a full understanding of the work to be performed (especially their individual role)
Report all hazards and positively intervene in all observed unsafe acts (Stop Work Authority)
Participate in emergency drills, including post-drill debriefs
Attend General Safety Meetings
Instruct his crews in the safest work methods and provide On-the-Job training
Carry out all work activities within the guidelines of Company or Operator Policies or Procedures
Ensuring he is familiar with any delegated responsibilities as detailed in the Operators Emergency Response Plan
Ensure proper use and care for their personal protective equipment
Ensure that all work areas for personnel are always, so far as reasonably practical, safe and clean.
