Job Description
Responsible for management of onshore US shale drilling operations for the fields assigned. Prefer candidate with experience supervising Unconventionals horizontal drilling activities. Experience in pad operations / SIMOPs is a plus.
Due to the competitive nature of onshore, wells have to be drilled and completed as quickly and efficiently as possible while maintaining high performance in HSSE. The success of the overall onshore operations continues to rely predominantly on the ability of the Wells group to deliver low cost wells. This Drilling Field Supervisor is a key leader to secure the continuation of this success.
Specifically, the Drilling Field Supervisor is responsible for management of the drilling operations and contractors on site. This includes the HSSE, operational, continuous improvement, contractor management and best practice sharing considerations to execute the operation and engineering procedure.
Responsible for reviewing/executing engineering plans, mentoring less experienced personnel, analyzing/managing project risk, working closely with engineering in the execution of the operations, tracking/managing trouble time and costs and driving performance to lower costs.
Has a strong knowledge and commitment to HSSE through training, integrating HSSE into work plans/activities, managing contractor performance through established processes, and supporting sustainable development activities. Employee will be assigned a coach/mentor depending on skill level/expertise with expectation that employee also coach/mentors less experienced personnel. Required travel onshore to the field location.
The successful candidate is expected to actively interact with the Wells superintendents, engineers, HSSE staff and contractors.
Principal accountabilities of the position include the following:
Project Execution – Responsible for planning, logistics, supervising and documenting the execution of well work activities. Provides input on prognoses including details around HSSE, well control, fluids, cement, equipment/materials, contractors, etc.
HSSE Responsible for ensuring HSSE is integrated in the procedure and execution of drilling operations. Actively promote HSSE and sustainable development in all activities and ensure compliance with business principles.
Closely tracks well costs during job execution including differentiating trouble costs from expected costs.
Responsible for managing the well work schedule, contractor resources and serving as the interface between engineering/operations.
Responsible for well handover with completions operations.
Execute well work to meet the business plan including cycle time, cost and production targets. Accountable for managing well costs in line with business plan targets.
Integral role in CP (Contracts and Procurement) activities.
Improving performance thru well delivery processes and using continuous improvement and competitive benchmarking. Champion these processes for your projects and drive operational excellence.
Support the implementation of new technologies.
Responsible for interfacing with contractors regarding scheduling, equipment, performance, HSSE plans, etc.
A critical aspect of the Drilling Field Supervisors job is mentoring less experienced staff and managing contractors to achieve alignment between Shell and contractor goals
Requirements
Must have legal authorization to work full-time in the United States on a full-time basis
Minimum 7 years relevant industry experience including drilling operations.
Role is a 14X14 rotational assignment; must be willing to work this schedule.
5 years of Leadership experience as a well site supervisor or Field Superintendent
High school education required; Technical College education desired.
Sound understanding of the process to deliver well operations including implementation of new technologies.
Proven experience in the field for planning and executing daily operations.
Sound understanding of HSSE management techniques and the commitment to deliver HSSE performance.
Experience dealing with competing priorities: decisions are made without undue delay, demonstrated flexibility regarding prioritization and re-deployment of resources/staff.
Excellent people skills and experience working in a multi-discipline team environment.
