Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of 1st Officer located in Glasgow , Glasgow City /United Kingdom .Requisition ID#396421Expectations for the position of 1st Officer include but are not limited to: • Meets the competency standards as listed in STCW Table A-II/2 and has the technical competency to handle situations unsupervised but uses good judgement as to when the Master would wish to be consulted / present. • Has thorough knowledge of USCG and international regulations such as MARPOL, SOLAS, SIGTTO / ISGOTT, Classification Society and flag state requirements. • Up to date with industry best practice procedures for enclosed space entry, hot work, Lockout /Tag out, pollution prevention, working aloft, safe lifting. • Has complete technical knowledge of the cargo, ballast, Deck equipment, systems and machinery. • Has a thorough knowledge of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, but uses good judgement as to when the Master would wish to be on the Bridge. • Displays the leadership skills required for command and acts as second in command of the vessel in the Masters absence. • Demonstrates the ability to make independent decisions in all areas of his/her duties. • Recognizes the importance of the Chief Officers position on board as one of the primary persons responsible for protecting people and the environment. • Manages on board inventory economically without prejudicing safety or the vessels operation. • Continuously looks for and proposes ways to increase cost effectiveness of operations, monitors vessels budgets and actively questions expense discrepancies. • Participates in and leads daily, monthly and toolbox safety meetings. • Communicates effectively with VMT, subordinates and personnel ashore in a calm and respectful manner. • Acts as a role model to junior officers. Exhibits a positive attitude towards the job and the people on board, fosters good working relationships, teamwork and a productive safe working environment. Actively promotes and supports diversity.
