Brief Description:  

Patterson-UTI Drilling Company has one of the largest and most technologically advanced fleets of drilling rigs in the United States, and is actively interviewing in the Engineering Department to bring on a new graduate engineer. This position will require the individual to learn and understand the drilling process and apply technical knowledge to support, repair, design, and build new drilling equipment.

This role will initially begin with a few months of working a number of different positions on active drilling rigs throughout the United States. The role will than transition into applying knowledge gained from the field with technical knowledge to provide solutions to a wide range of issues the company faces across a number of functional areas including Technical Services, Operations, Project Management, and Maintenance. In addition to a technical degree the ideal candidate will have past experience and passion within one or more of the following areas maintaining motorized vehicles, operating heavy equipment, working with farming equipment, welding, machine shop work, etc.      

Detailed Description:

Spend time in various field roles to gain a better understanding in onshore based drilling equipment
Work under a professional engineer to apply knowledge gained the field solve technical problems
Work in multi-disciplinary teams execute on a wide variety of projects, across a number of functional areas including Technical Services, Operations, Project Management, and Maintenance
Work towards being able to manage project from inception to completion
Learn and work within company systems to implement solutions company wide   
Develop company standards and work instructions 
Job Requirements:

Take a “hands on” approach to learn what is required to build, operates, and maintained rigs 
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously to meet challenging deadlines
Demonstrate clear written and verbal communication skills and ability to promptly give, and follow directions when working with others
Ability to develop business processes when necessary for improved organization or efficiency
Working knowledge of all disciplines in the design engineering fields that pertain to the construction and operation of drilling rigs to include motor, engine, mechanical, structural, hydraulic, electrical control systems
Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools, including cost estimating and scheduling
Ability interpret and understand technical documents and drawings
Ability to regularly travel as needed to visit work sites and support business units; may occasionally require extended travel to remote locations and/or overnight stay(s) outside normal office area
Ability to proficiently use MS Office Suite to develop presentations, correspondences, reports, and schedules (Word, Excel, Power Point, Project etc.)
Ability to draft work instruction documents for field upgrades
 Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering or technical discipline
Experience within one or more of the following areas maintaining motorized vehicles, operating heavy equipment, working with farming equipment, welding, machine shop work, etc.
Experience in 2D/3D drafting and engineering software
Eligible to drive Company or personal vehicle for Company purposes including ability to meet requirements of Company’s Vehicle Use Agreement and Driving Policy
Preferred Qualifications:

Drilling rig experience
Design experience
Welding/fabrication experience
Project management experience
Engineer in Training Certification
Additional Details:

This position requires the person to be able to work in a time sensitive, high visible role and regularly travel as needed to support business units and visit work sites. It may also require extended travel to remote locations and/or overnight stay(s) during variable hours. Variable work hours include hours worked on the weekend, on holidays, and hours to travel within and outside of the assigned region. The Graduate Engineer must work with an emphasis on planning, multitasking and prioritization to maximize efficiency of the project team. Must be able to work closely with others and manage customer interaction in a professional manner. Ability to safely navigate work sites with occasional walking, climbing, standing, stepping, working at heights etc., during normal operating conditions (day/night, outdoor hot/cold weather) and while utilizing designated personal protective equipment (PPE).
